Prayer for Bible Study
Eternal God,
who caused all holy scriptures
to be written for our learning,
grant us so to hear them,
read, mark, learn, and inwardly digest them,
that we may embrace and ever hold fast
the blessed hope of everlasting life,
which you have given us in our Saviour Jesus Christ,
who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit,
one God, now and for ever.
The holy Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ
according to Luke.
39 In those days Mary set out and went with haste to a Judean town in the hill country, 40 where she entered the house of Zechariah and greeted Elizabeth. 41 When Elizabeth heard Mary's greeting, the child leaped in her womb. And Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit 42 and exclaimed with a loud cry, "Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb. 43 And why has this happened to me, that the mother of my Lord comes to me? 44 For as soon as I heard the sound of your greeting, the child in my womb leaped for joy. 45 And blessed is she who believed that there would be a fulfillment of what was spoken to her by the Lord." Luke 1:39-45

THE PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE
We continue our journey toward Christmas by lighting a fourth candle, the sign of love. As a sign of desire to welcome the news of God's coming in the Saviour's birth we ask God to help us repent by waiting for the love that God's relationship brings so we can live in the love of the kingdom present and coming.
Most holy and merciful Father,
we confess to you, to one another,
and to the whole communion of saints
in heaven and on earth,
that we have sinned by our own fault
in thought, word, and deed;
by what we have done,
and by what we have left undone.
My soul waits for the Lord. In his word is love.
God, we have failed to love you,
with all our heart, soul, mind, and strength.
God, send Mary to visit us in the Christmas Gospel;
show us Jesus, and teach us to worship you with love.
Lord, fill us with your Spirit so we may sing like Mary;
My soul proclaims the greatness of the Lord,
my spirit rejoices in God my Saviour;
for he has looked with favour on his lowly servant.
Accomplish in us, O God, the work of your salvation,
That we may show forth your glory in the world.
Almighty God have mercy on us, forgive us all our sins
through our Lord Jesus Christ, strengthen us in all goodness,
and by the power of the Holy Spirit keep us in eternal life. Amen.
We pray with …
We give thanks for…
We remember the departed…
With thankful hearts we say, Amen.
