I was emotionally and spiritually paralyzed. I went to the church and found that I couldn't concentrate long enough to read scripture or pray. I sat silently in the church with pain and depression, offering time as the only offering I was able to make.

Each day I would go to the church and sit there in silence offering my time to God. I began to notice that the hurt wasn't as destructive. The depression was being replaced with contentment. I began having good thoughts, refreshing, light and joyful thoughts about God, people, and myself. Silent prayer became one of the most blessed ways to pray.

Grief made me silent in prayer. When the grief was past, I found it difficult to be quiet. My mind was too active and my body was restless.

One day I came across an old set of prayer beads. Very slowly with each prayer and each meditation on the life of Christ, I became more still until silence was achieved wherein God's love performs miracles.

In later years I attended the Agnus Sanford School of Pastoral Care. I met a priest who practiced the Jesus Prayer using the Orthodox Christian rosary. I learned this prayer and was delighted to discover that this rosary also helped me enter into silent prayer.

In 2003 I discovered Anglican Prayer Beads.  There are no set prayers to be said. Anglican Prayer Beads offer a pattern of prayer that calls forth the uniqueness and richness of each soul's response to God.
