| Anglican Prayer Beads |
Prayer beads offer one method of meditative prayer. The purpose of this kind of prayer is to help us focus on the Word of God in four expressions. Scripture as the Word. Jesus as the Word. The Sacramental Word. The interior Word of the Holy Spirit. The repetition of the prayer calms the spirit and helps us become quiet. "Be still, and know that I am God!" (Psalm 46:10) When the whole person has become still, and the Word of God dwells within, God woes the soul and saturates it with the gift of eternal life, the blessing of divine grace. When prayer brings us to this place of communion with God, it is called contemplation, and the power of prayer becomes union with God. Prayer beads are also called Rosaries. Some people find it helpful to think of this form of prayer as offering the Holy One a bouquet of flowers. The prayer we offer reaches out to God with the beauty and aroma of the Word that God has revealed to us. "For all things come from you, and of your own have we given you." (1 Chronicles 29:14b) |
